How to work with GraidLens

Short guides for what you do most — from your first exam to exporting grades.

Setting up your first exam

5 min

Three photos and your exam is ready: the blank exam, your answer key, and then your students' work.

  1. Go to Exams and choose New exam. Give it a title and optionally pick the class, the exam type and the test kind.
  2. Take a photo of the blank exam. GraidLens reads the questions and points. Check them and adjust where needed.
  3. Take a photo of your answer key. A draft marking scheme appears per question; read it and sharpen it.
  4. No photo at hand? Type the questions yourself and use the button per question to generate a marking scheme.
  5. Save the exam. You can now add your students' work straight away.

Tip: The more concrete the marking scheme — what earns a point and what doesn't — the better the AI grades.

Upload students' work and have it graded

3 min

Photograph the work, and GraidLens grades it in one go.

  1. Open the exam and tap Add. Take a photo per student, or drop several photos at once — each photo becomes one student.
  2. Does a student have more sheets? Use + page for that student.
  3. Get an amber note that a photo looks blurry or too dark? Tap Retake and photograph that sheet again.
  4. Tap Upload & grade. Everything is uploaded and graded right away. If the exam belongs to a class, the names on the sheets are read too.
  5. A submission shows error? Tap Grade on that submission to try again.

Tip: Shoot straight from above, in good light, with the whole sheet in view.

Grade by question — faster than per student

4 min

Question 1 for the whole class first, then question 2. Identical answers are graded in one go.

  1. On a graded exam, tap Grade by question.
  2. Answers that are (nearly) the same sit together in one group. Tap a score and the whole group is graded.
  3. Want to score one student differently? Tap Show students and adjust that one student.
  4. Tap Only doubtful cases to see only where the AI was unsure or gave different scores.
  5. Approve the rest takes the AI score for every answer the AI was sure about. Everything saves automatically.

Review a student and confirm the grade

3 min

You always have the final say: no grade is final without your confirmation.

  1. Open a submission. Per question you see what the student wrote, the AI's score and its explanation.
  2. Change a score or feedback. Your change saves itself — there's no save button.
  3. Rather talk than type? Tap the microphone, say your remark, and GraidLens turns it into clean feedback for the student.
  4. All good? Tap Confirm grade. Next takes you to the next student.

Set up test kinds (e.g. reading or writing)

3 min

Set per kind of test how the AI grades — for example whether spelling counts.

  1. Go to Settings and scroll to Test kinds. Three are ready: reading comprehension, writing and progress test.
  2. Adjust the instructions to how you grade, or add your own kind.
  3. Pick the kind when you create an exam. The AI follows those rules; your marking scheme always takes precedence.
  4. Edit a kind later? Existing exams keep the old rules. In the exam settings you can take over the latest rules if you want.

Export grades

2 min

Take the results to your grade administration or share them with students.

  1. Per exam: open the exam's analytics and choose Export CSV.
  2. Per class: open the class, go to the gradebook and choose Export CSV for all of that class's exams.
  3. Per student: open a confirmed submission and download the result sheet as a Word document.

Secure your account with two-step verification

2 min

Your account holds student data. An extra code at sign-in keeps it safe, even if your password leaks.

  1. Go to Settings and choose Turn on under Two-step verification.
  2. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password).
  3. Enter the 6-digit code from the app. From now on GraidLens asks for such a code when you sign in.

Troubleshooting

2 min

The most common messages, and what to do about them.

  1. "No questions/answers found": is the right page in the photo, complete and legible? Take the photo again.
  2. "The AI couldn't process the photo right now": a temporary hiccup. Try again in a minute.
  3. A submission shows error: tap Grade on that submission to try again.
  4. Forgot your password: tap Forgot password? at the bottom of the login page. The link in the email works on any device for an hour.
